About Finca Las Margaritas, Cafe Granja La Esperanza

Finca Las Margaritas is part of Café Granja La Esperanza, the Colombian specialty coffee project led by Rigoberto and Luis Eduardo Herrera. Located in Caicedonia, Valle del Cauca, Las Margaritas sits between 1,570 and 1,850 meters above sea level and is divided into multiple farm lots, giving CGLE a structured environment for matching variety, altitude, and processing style.

The Herrera family’s coffee history began at Potosí, where Juan Antonio Herrera expanded the farm’s Typica plantings with Yellow Bourbon, Red Bourbon, and Caturra in 1945. Rigoberto and Luis later developed the project toward high-end specialty production, with particular attention to rare varieties and controlled post-harvest methods. Las Margaritas is one of the key farms within that program, and this Gesha reflects CGLE’s focus on variety-driven clarity and precise processing.

About Gesha

Gesha is a tall Arabica variety widely associated with high quality potential at elevation. In specialty coffee, well-grown Gesha lots are often valued for floral aromatics, citrus clarity, tea-like structure, and layered sweetness, though the final cup is always shaped by farm conditions, picking, processing, and roasting.

In this lot, the lemon blossom note and bright peach-kiwi fruit expression fit the more aromatic side of Gesha without relying on heavy fermentation character. The high-elevation Las Margaritas setting and Hybrid Washed process help frame the variety with clarity, sweetness, and a clean finish.

About Processing

CGLE’s Hybrid Washed process combines elements of whole-cherry fermentation with a washed-style finish. In this style, ripe cherries are first selected and fermented whole before depulping; the coffee then undergoes a second fermentation in parchment with mucilage before being washed and dried under controlled conditions.

Compared with a straightforward washed process, this approach can add fruit depth, sweetness, and texture while preserving the clarity and structure expected from washed coffee. For this Gesha, the process supports the cup’s peach and kiwi notes while keeping the lemon blossom aromatics clean and defined.
