Farm and Producer

Felipe Contreras works at Finca Gascón in San Juan Gascón, near Antigua, Guatemala. His father, Gildardo, acquired the property in 2012; the family planted Bourbon in 2014 and Gesha in 2016, including drip irrigation for the Gesha plots. Felipe began introducing new production systems in 2019. The farm spans elevations of 1,800–2,050 meters, with this selection listed at 1,800 meters.

Variety

Gesha, also spelled Geisha, is an Arabica variety with Ethiopian origins. It is valued for high cup-quality potential and floral aromatics, especially under suitable high-elevation growing conditions. Its expression also depends on cultivation, processing, and roasting.

Processing

This Gesha is prepared as a koji hybrid washed coffee. An initial fermentation with koji takes place before the cherries are depulped. The coffee is then washed and dried on raised beds. Koji refers to a fungus used in fermentation; its use here is a processing treatment separate from the Gesha variety.
