About Finca Las Magaritas, Cafe Granja La Esperanza

Café Granja La Esperanza is the Herrera family’s multi-farm specialty coffee project, led by brothers Rigoberto and Luis Eduardo Herrera. The family’s coffee history traces back to Potosí, where Juan Antonio Herrera and Blanca Ligia Correa established Café Granja La Esperanza in 1945 and expanded the farm’s plantings beyond Typica to include Yellow Bourbon, Red Bourbon, and Caturra. Rigoberto later worked with Geisha in Panama before bringing Geisha seeds into Colombia, helping shape Café Granja La Esperanza’s reputation for rare varieties and highly controlled specialty production.

Finca Las Margaritas is located in Caicedonia, Valle del Cauca, at approximately 1,570–1,850 masl. The farm is documented as 33.8 hectares of crop area across 13 lots, with production conditions around 17–22°C, 1,340 mm of annual rainfall, and 73% humidity. In this context, the washed Gesha profile emphasizes clarity, florality, citrus definition, and a clean expression of fruit.

About Gesha

Gesha is an Ethiopian landrace variety widely valued in specialty coffee for its high cup-quality potential when grown at elevation. It is often associated with delicate florality, tea-like structure, and citrus or stone-fruit aromatics, though the exact expression depends heavily on site, harvest, and processing. In this washed Las Margaritas lot, the Gesha character presents through jasmine aromatics, blackberry sweetness, and a focused mandarin acidity.
