Hacienda La Esmeralda & El Velo

The Peterson family has owned Hacienda La Esmeralda since 1967, expanding its focus on coffee during the 1980s. Higo 6 FB comes from El Velo, a 50-hectare farm acquired in 2012. Its relatively flat terrain allows coffee to be planted in rows, with Gesha grown alongside varieties used in the family's ongoing research.

The Higo lot covers 7.3 hectares in Quiel, above 1,750 meters. Its coffee trees averaged nine years old at the time of the 2026 harvest.

Gesha

Originally from Ethiopia, Gesha is known for its delicate floral aromatics and high quality potential when grown at elevation. At Hacienda La Esmeralda, keeping individual lots separate has helped reveal the variety's different expressions across the estate.

Processing

Harvested on March 26, 2026, Higo 6 FB was depulped and fermented for 96 hours in a cool room, then dried slowly on raised beds for 20 days. The cup brings together notes of jasmine, lemon, honey, and melon.
