Farm and Producer

Tagel Alemayehu grew up in a coffee-trading family in Bule Hora and began managing a washing station in 2004. He founded Olkai Coffee in 2018 as Ethiopia's export rules opened to more independent operators; his wife manages exports for the family business.

This washed selection comes from growers supplying the Hambela station in Guji, at a listed elevation of 2,350 meters. Olkai connects these smallholder harvests with centralized processing and export.

Variety

Kurume is a regional Ethiopian landrace name associated with small cherries and widely used in the Guji and Gedeo areas. Local names can encompass variation between plantings.

Dega is an Ethiopian regional landrace name associated with cool highland cultivation. Local names can encompass variation between plantings.

Processing

In washed processing, the fruit pulp and remaining mucilage are removed before the coffee is dried. This approach often emphasizes a defined structure and separation of flavors, while fermentation and drying choices still influence the result.
