Farm and Producer

José Luis Eguiguren farms Hacienda Santa Gertrudis in Malacatos, Loja, where his grandfather first planted coffee in 1954. José took over production in 2017 and directed it toward specialty coffee. The farm has its own wet and dry mills, which also support neighboring growers with processing and export preparation. This Mejorado selection comes from 1,600–1,700 meters.

Variety

Mejorado, often sold as Typica Mejorado, is cultivated by specialty producers in Ecuador, including Finca Soledad and Hacienda La Papaya. Producers keep this selection distinct from their other varieties during cultivation and processing, allowing its character to be evaluated across different preparations.

Processing

In washed processing, the fruit pulp and remaining mucilage are removed before the coffee is dried. This approach often emphasizes a defined structure and separation of flavors, while fermentation and drying choices still influence the result.
